Note: Minimum 2 night stay recommended to make the most of exploring the beautiful West Coast region.
Awatuna Homestead, on the West Coast of the Southern Alps (Te Tai O Poutini), offers much more than just accommodation. It is really an escape to an untouched world where you can relax amidst a peaceful setting yet with a touch of homely elegance.
Your hosts, the Te Räkau family - Pauline, Hëmi, Eleanor and Peter - will provide a hospitality that is in keeping with the best and truest Awatuna traditions.
In fact, Awatuna gained its reputation as a safe anchorage and calm landing place with a peaceful setting, in the early times when the first navigators guided their waka (vessels) to these shores after long and hazardous sea voyages from out of the Pacific Ocean.

Today the song of the sea is still heard and the ancient places of the people are etched into the landscape around the homestead. In spite of the passing of the centuries, the meaning of Awatuna and the hospitality it provided remains and is shared with today's modern travellers from afar who now ride the waves of the skies and highways.
