This is the perfect spot to break your journey along the West Coast. Birds Ferry Lodge is conveniently located midway between Glacier country and the North of the South Island of New Zealand. This isolated and unspoiled location is surrounded by native bush, teems with abundant native birdlife and overlooks the Tasman Sea and Paparoa Mountains. Easy to access, just 2KM from SHW 6.

Accommodation and food is of a high standard with guests’ comfort our priority. Guests can choose from a very private and modern self contained cottage or luxurious Ensuite Lodge rooms.

Holistic Massage Therapy and personalised local guiding are also available.

Accommodation Options

Stylish and comfortable rooms with Queen Bed or Twin options. (3 rooms in total). Ensuite bathrooms feature baths, heated towel rails and handmade toiletries from Marlborough New Zealand. Hairdryers, electric blankets, luxurious robes, adjustable heating, wireless broadband and screened windows ensure guest comfort. The Kiwi can be heard here at night.

All rooms access the main deck area from where the West Coast sunsets can be enjoyed form the heated Spa. Birds Ferry Lodge is the first Guest and Hosted accommodation in New Zealand to be awarded the Qualmark Enviro Gold Logo. This is recognition of the many efforts we make to reduce our, and our guests environmental footprint.

Ferry Man’s Cottage

Located at the very end of Birds Ferry Road, Ferry Man’s Cottage offers an exclusive retreat set in its own private 12 acre section and gardens. On the edge of a small lake, with visiting native birdlife this is a most peaceful spot. The Kiwi can be heard here at night.

The solid timber cottage is finished to a very high standard and designed to take in the panoramic mountain and ocean views– all the luxury touches of Birds Ferry Lodge but with a fully equipped kitchen in your own private setting. Luxurious interiors are warmed by a roaring fire. WiFi Internet available (small charge in cottage)

Accommodation comprises of 1 Four poster Queen room, 1 Superking room (can be king twin) and a double sleep sofa in lounge. Portacot available.
