Smartraining courses are eligible for 50% funding through the NZTE Capability Development Voucher Scheme
At Smartraining, we have worked with New Zealand Trade and Enterprise for the last ten years. This year, a new funding system to assist small businesses obtain quality training services,has been developed. The new voucher scheme provides 50% funding for courses that have been approved by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.
We are pleased to let you knwo that that all Smartraining courses are eligible for the NZTE Capability Development Voucher Scheme.
About NZTE Capability Development Vouchers
Small businesses may qualify for vouchers to help pay for services such as training workshops, courses and coaching that build the management capabilities of their owners, operators and key managers.
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) Capability Development Vouchers are only available through Regional Business Partners around New Zealand. Regional Business Partners assess local businesses to determine what their needs are, and assist them with a plan to help them develop, grow and innovate.
Vouchers may be allocated as part of the plan to help businesses pay for up to 50 % of the cost of services from registered providers that improve management capabilities in targeted areas.
How do I qualify for the Voucher?
To qualify for vouchers a business must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Has less than 50 full time employees
- Is registered for GST in New Zealand
- Must be operating in a commercial environment – i.e. is currently trading
- Is privately owned or is a Maori Trust or incorporation under the Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993 or similar organisation managing Maori assets under multiple ownership
- Has had an assessment with a Regional Partner.
I qualify for the Voucher, what do I do next?

The Regional Partner will ask you to fill in an online questionnaire and then assesses your training needs. The Regional Partners are authorised to issue Vouchers to those businesses which would benefit from accessing capability building taking into account the following Assessment Criteria:
- The potential of the business for growth and innovation
- Commitment of the business to improving management capability
- There is an identified gap in the business’s capability that can be addressed through management capability building and training.
Once you have been through this process, you will be able to access more vouchers in the future.
