Linking your Instagram account to your (business) Facebook page is a must as it is so easy to share the photos you take on Instagram!
Here is a link to a page that explains how to link Facebook to Instagram (by the way, Instagram is owned by Facebook): https://help.instagram.com/493008720719279/ Have fun with Instagram! Till next week, Marijke

What is instagram?
Instagram is a very cool online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, and share them on a variety of social networking platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr. The photos are square and the maximum duration of a video is 15 seconds. There are currently 200 million active users. What I like about it is that it is so easy to use and it looks great! Everyone loves photos & videos! Oh, and it's free! You just download the app on your phone and you’re ready to go. It’s great for tourism businesses or any other type of business that sells a product and want to share pics! Embed it into your website! You can also embed a live Instagram feed on your website, see the bottom of the homepage of Destination Queenstown website: http://www.queenstownnz.co.nz/ Just take a photo and it automatically appears on your homepage! A very easy way to keep your content fresh. Getting started Get started with Instagram for business by going to http://business.instagram.com/ . There are tutorials on the site. Set a bit of time aside to go through them and learn how to get followers, use hashtags and more. Next week, I’ll give you some more ideas for using Instagram for your business. Till next week, Marijke Check out this clear video about hashtags and how to use them in social media to grow your brand! So, what hashtags should I use?
Use hashtags that reflect what you sell and your brand. They can include search terms / key words. If you use more than one word, they need to be attached. By having capital letters as the letter of each word, you can easily read the hashtag, e.g. #marketingtip What social media platforms support hashtags? Here are the most popular ones: - Twitter (they actually 'invented' hashtags!) - Flickr - Google+ - Tumblr Till next week, Marijke Coming up: FREE 2-hour tourism marketing workshop: Effective ways to grow your international visitor numbers! (4 Sept 2014 in Lumsden and 5 Sept in Invercargill) Go to www.smartraining.co.nz for more info Do you use Facebook as a marketing tool for your business - or intend to use it more?
Did you know you can embed Facebook on your website? It encourages people to like your page and it's an easy way to keep your website content up to date! To view an example of embedded Facebook page, go to the Radfords Motel website: http://www.radfordsmotel.co.nz/radfords-facebook-page.html Have a great rest of your week! Marijke I've talked about YouTube in previous tips and how it is the world's 2nd largest search engine.
Even more interesting is that currently 30% of online content consists of video. This is predicted to grow to 90%! Anyway, I use YouTube for workshops I run. It is also a great marketing tool!. We are going to produce some great videos in the near future, and you are hereby invited to be one of the first to subscribe to the MarketingWhizz YouTube Channel. You won't be disappointed! Have you seen the above icons on websites? They are share icons and encourage people to share content on your website.
It's a great way to increase quality traffic to your website! By having a range of share options, the visitors to your website will share your content with their preferred social media platform or by email. To add this to your website, go to: www.sharethis.com and follow instructions. And.. it's free! PS: have a go and share this page! Till next week, Marijke
Do you remember way back in September last year, I posted the article on viral marketing and the video about Denver, the Guilty Dog? The video had 29 million visitors at that stage. This has now grown to over 33 million.
I thought the cat snack manufacturer (Friskies) would have capitalised on the publicity of their product (and they've probably tried...), but something else has happened that is now making money for the makers the video. It's very clever! Check out the video again. Towards the end of the video, you'll see a link appear at the top left of the video. This is a great example of a product development initiative as a result of viral marketing. What do you think? Till next week, Marijke (PS Sorry about this tip being late! We had 2 Marketing Planning Bootcamps in Te Anau and Queenstown this week that kept us very busy!) I recently did a survey of what type of social media our readers are using.
Very few use Pinterest (yet). It works especially well for Business to Consumer. Here are a few reasons why you should use it for your business: - 70 million users worldwide - Drives more traffic than Youtube, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+ COMBINED! - 20% of users have purchased something they've used on Pinterest & they spend on average over $ 220. - It's free! So how can Pinterest help drive traffic to your website? - Ensure you have great content & headlines on your website & blogs: have a call to action / deal etc. - Have great images for your website and Pinterest (clear, close-up, well-lit) to encourage people to share it. - Each image you put on Pinterest links to a specific page on your website so you can measure it. (this is a great way to measure it) - Include the Pin it button under each image / blog post. - Include your Pinterest profile on your website. Give it a go and let me know how you get on! www.pinterest.com Till next week, Marijke Most small businesses use some kind of social media (mostly Facebook) to help them market their business and communicate with their customers.
But as the number of social media options grows, many struggle to decide what to use and how to do it well. I would start from your customers' point of view. Simply ask them what type of social media they use. It could be through a short questionnaire with just tick boxes. If you're not using one of the social media options that your customers are using, then it's time to look it as it could be a great way to reach more of your customers! Simple really... Till next week, Marijke I found the following infographic online. It has some great (and simple) tips on what works on Facebook. Enjoy & till next week! Marijke PS the Marketing for Success Programme is starting in Te Anau tomorrow - very exciting! www.smartraining.co.nz Click on the image below to get a higher res version.
Ok, this is a bit of a marketer's dream. There is very little chance you can reach that many people and create that much goodwill and 'emotional connection' (this will make people remember them and more likely to book their flights) for the money that was spent on this ad. Very creative! You can do this too! In January, we are starting the new Marketing For Success Programme - we will teach you innovative ways to reach lots of customers and support you in reaching your goals. Register now! Go to our Smartraining page for more info! We will be taking a little break, and will be back in the new year with more marketing tips. Wishing you, your family and your staff a Merry Christmas and may 2014 be your best year ever! Kind regards, Marijke Are you using Facebook for your business? It works particularly well if you can create a ‘community’ for your business, product or service.
Here are a few tips to successfully engage your customers on Facebook. Tip 1: Ask questions One of the easiest ways to engage with others on Facebook is to ask questions. People love to talk about themselves and offer their thoughts. The more comments and "Likes" you get on your posts, the more likely they are to appear higher in users' feeds. Ask questions starting with Would, Where, Should etc. These questions drive “Likes” as fans will use “Like” as a way of voting yes on a question. Keywords such as "where," "when," "would," and "should" spark the highest level of engagement on Facebook. "Would," in particular, drives spikes in "Likes" due to fans using "Like" as a way of voting yes on a question. Tip 2: Interact and engage When people write comments on your posts or wall, participate in the discussion. Again, the longer a thread is, the higher it will likely rank in your fans' Facebook news feeds. Tip 3: Make it interesting! Use relevant photos, videos, coupons etc. instead of just posting items with text. They love visual items. They tend to forward interesting items to others. Photos of staff and ‘behind the scenes’, photos of customers enjoying your product or service etc. Tip 4: Include links within posts Link to news items on your website and if you use Mailchimp for newsletters, you can automatically post them to Facebook and your website. This is an easy way to spread information simultaneously through a variety of channels. Tip 5: Encourage people to ‘Like’ your Facebook page Always ask your customers to’ Like’ your Facebook page through newsletters, your website, email etc. Please like ours... Go to: https://www.facebook.com/MarketingWhizz Tip 7: Facebook ‘guidelines’ for staff If you have other people in your company posting information to Facebook, ensure you have guidelines on what information to put on and what not. Don’t forget that whatever is posted on Facebook is a reflection of your business! Also watch grammar and spelling! Till next week, Marijke PS: are you using Facebook for your business? If so, how successful is it for you? (you can leave a comment below) I recently read that people process images 60,000 times faster than text and 90 % of information transmitted to the brain is visually based.
Most businesses rely on images to sell their products. Whether you operate a tourism business, a landscaping business or a retail store, you will probably have great images! Pinterest (pronounced like “interest” but with a “p”) is a virtual bulletin board that lets users share inspiring images and links. When shared the images are called “pins” that can be placed on thematic “boards” that users customize for any topic. Pinterest is all about curating images. Who is using Pinterest? Pinterest is the fastest growing social media network ever, currently with over 70 million users. Pinterest users are predominantly female. In fact, women account for 70 % of Pinterest users and are about five times as likely to use the virtual scrapbooking tool as men, the largest gender difference of any social network. This is a good thing! As women are the main decision makers in deciding where to go on holiday and what to buy for their family (even cars!), they are the ones you want to reach. They also tend to do a lot more online research on any purchases than men. Pinterest users are also a little bit older, although the core demographic is 18-34 year olds, representing 56 per cent of users. Pinterest is also a great tool for (tourism) businesses. I found this site on Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/visitmysmokies/ What a great way to group images! Would this look good for your business? On the Pinterest website, this is where you can get started: http://business.pinterest.com/ Give it a go! Till next week, Marijke I've just returned from an amazing 5-day marketing and business conference in the USA. It's given me a renewed focus and energy for my business! This week, let's have a look at social media. Check out the video below: Most businesses do engage in some sort of social media, whether it be on a Facebook page, Twitter, Linkedin or videos on Youtube. It can however be a bit overwhelming and can take a lot of time. So before you decide
what type of social media to use for your business, survey your customers to see what type of social media they would use to engage with businesses like yours. Till next week, Marijke |
